Espirito Azul is a company dedicated to Diving and Sea Tourism, founded by three lovers of the sea and diving. Our aim is to offer goods and services to all of those who, like us, also love the sea-based activities.
Besides a shop with all the diving equipment (also repairing facilities), we have at your disposal all sorts of programs like Snorkeling, Boat rentals including Skipper (for boat rides alongside the lovely coast of S.Miguel Island), and a full service dive center opened all year long, with at least two dive trips a day, from the Vila Franca do Campo harbour. We also offer most of the educational programs from most of the biggest and more important training agencies, from basic levels to Instructor training, both on Recreational and Technical Diving.

For the lovers of the underwater world who have a scuba diving certificate, we offer a different and unique experience where the volcanic reefs, arches, underwater caves and wrecks are predominant.

We go out for diving at least twice a day (meeting hours at 9.00 and 14.00), everyday, all year round.
The wealth of the marine life attracts groupers, parrot fishes, stingrays, morenas, congers, mackerel, barracudas, manta rays, octopuses, tunas, black jacks and lots of other atlantic species.
The surface water temperature varies from 16ºC to 24ºC, with visibility of up to 40 meters.

Our Diving School is able to teach you all levels, from the very beginning to Instructor teaching. So, no matter which Training Agency you choose, from the ones we represent, you will always be able to go a long way in Espirito Azul School.
CMAS (Condedération Mundial des Activités Subaquatiques) is the oldest Training Agency in Europe, and specialised in training Recreational Divers. In Portugal it is represented by FPAS (Portuguese Federation of Underwater Activities) and the formation scheme is based essentially on 3 levels for divers and 3 for Instructors, with several Speciality Courses, like shown below in the diagram:
PADI and EFR don´t need presentations. PADI is the largest diving training agency in the world, and the courses available are as described below. EFR (Emergncy First Response) is the emergency first respone training division from PADI.
SDI was created in 1999 and grew out of the success of our sister company TDI, which specializes in the more advanced disciplines of dive training.
Both students and instructors have embraced the no nonsense approach that the SDI training system offers. We have streamlined the course materials to let students study the essential academics with an emphasis on practical diving skills learned in both the pool and open water environments. SDI is the only scuba training and certification agency to require students to be taught with modern dive computers from the onset of training.
SDI course materials are state-of-the-art; the materials are lavishly illustrated with photography and graphics.

TDI is the largest technical certification agency in the world. As one of the first agencies to provide training in mixed gas diving and rebreathers, TDI is seen as an innovator of new diving techniques and programs which previously were not available to the general public. Training with TDI has provided divers with the opportunity to see such wrecks as the Andrea Doria, Lusitania and the Prince of Wales. TDI divers have explored underwater caves in Spain, Australia and Mexico and assisted as support divers on world record freedives done in the Red Sea.
TDI’s professionals are held to the highest standard to ensure quality training throughout the world. This means that as a diver taking a TDI course, your instructor will have documented his experience and knowledge prior to achieving that rating. As an instructor candidate taking a TDI course, your TDI instructor trainer will have gone through the paces to achieve the highest level of training that TDI offers.
TDI is committed to offering the highest quality training supported by the latest materials with the most up to date information and techniques. TDI’s materials are written by authors that acutely conduct the type of diving they are writing about. Those same materials are updated as technology and equipment change.
Each of our Training Programs is based on our Diver Diamond Methodology, which focuses on the proper knowledge, skills, equipment, and experience required in becoming a highly qualified diver.

Knowledge replaces fears and fantasies with correct information. The SSI Home Study Total Teaching System (Full color Manual, DVD and Study Guide) will teach you certain safety rules and your instructor will relate that information in a “land value” to “water value” format with an interactive classroom presentation.

There are only two ways that people learn — either shock or repetition. Shock is not a good way to learn anything, especially diving. SSI’s signature water training method is “Comfort though Repetition.” It is important to take the time to develop the skills necessary for you to become a safe and comfortable diver.

DAN Training courses teach the first aid steps to care for an injured diver and interact with medical professionals.
These courses help you gain a better understanding of dive medicine and how to respond to a dive emergency within your scope of practice.
They all provide diving medical education using a language that can be easily understood by everybody.
